Pocketbooks 'Promises, Promises'

Somewhere in the deep tumult of my brain lives a world of make believe assumptions I take as true fact... for example, that if I switch on Radio 2 I will be greeted by somebody like Ken Bruce or Brian Matthew speaking in warming, friendly, velvetty tones who will cue up a POP record that will be lovely and lilting and soothing and turn a shitty shitey shoddy day into something full of wonder and promise and I will be lifted and made all better and will do something like pat the radio with my hand and tell it 'thank you'

In reality whenever I do turn on Radio 2 I get some prannet off the telly guffing nonsense out of their unwiped dirty front mouth as they play songs that grate and hurt and make me feel tired and neurotic and ready to end it all... I kick the radio and go out into the world angry and frothing insensibly at the mouth

This isn't any good for anyone, it might explain why the world is the way it is...

Fortunately, for me- and perhaps for you, perhaps even the world, if the world would listen- there is/are Pocketbooks

I'm listening to 'Promises, Promises' off the new LP

This is the song that would come on whenever I tune the radio to Radio 2, the song that would make me believe the world is a welcome and lovely place, warm and wonderful, irresistible and happening, the sort of world you open the curtains to and let the sunshine in for

All because of Pocketbooks

There's a free download of 'Promises, Promises' here

Which will be available on the new LP 'Carousel' released in September 2011 (just in time for my birthday... just saying) on the essential bordering on valiant, heroic Odd Box records
